Goals

I recently celebrated my birthday and it felt really weird. I have never been one to get upset at getting older, but this year felt different. I am the wrong side of 30 and while not worried about getting older, it has made me take a long hard look at where I am and what I want to achieve. I want to make sure that I don’t stagnate in my personal and professional life. So I’ve set myself a five year plan. Some things are small and will be easily achievable and some things are huge and will take a lot of work, but I want to make sure I do my best to achieve all of them.

Nicola Douglas, a perfomance coach from Arcana Coaching www.arcana-coaching.com says “Setting goals is important, because of the benefits we get from creating and striving to achieve. People who set goals are proven to be happier; goal setting gives us more energy; contributes to our sense of wellbeing; gives us a purpose and direction in life and helps us to take control. Without goals of our own we will only ever be a bit player in someone else’s story.”

I want to write my own story.  What about you?  One of my favourite quotes is by Lewis Carroll – “If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will get you there.

Thanks for quoting me Louisa! Another great thing for achieving your goals is to share them, as once they’re out there it makes you accountable for them. Perhaps you can share a couple of the goals from your 5 year plan in another blog post soon?

    That’s a good idea Nicola!
