I spent all day Saturday at the Mumpreneur Conference organised by Amanda Farren of Ella Announcements, www.ellaannouncements.com
The day was wonderful on so many levels. I attended fabulous seminars by Sam Hart of Sam Hart Writing and Lecturing www.samhart.co.uk, Susan Odev of Cabochon Living www.mum-ultrapreneur.com and Alison Rothwell of SEO training club www.seotrainingclub.com . I sat in and listened to motivational talks by several talented and successful women including Wendy from www.totstotravel.co.uk and Lisa from www.finkcards.com and I got to meet fellow business owners that I have been chatting with, getting advice from and receiving support from for so many months on places such as Twitter and Mums Club. Amanda had really excelled herself in planning the day.
What struck me most, was how, well, normal, everyone was. I recognised Lisa from Fink Cards from Grazia Magazine (my favourite weekly read) and I was almost star struck. She was so lovely and so down to earth. She has just won the O2 business woman of the year award and has now been nominated for a prestigious European award and her business idea was started from a simple idea to benefit her family and improve their everyday life together. At lunch, I sat next to Jo from www.creative-casting.co.uk again, another hugely successul woman and not only was she friendly and chatty, she was so nice and freely gave me advice on my relatively new business.
I learnt so much from the seminars on the day and I really enjoyed the networking aspect of it, it was a really fun and worthwhile day out. There was more to it though, I am so proud to be part of such a wonderful network of people. Women, who are doing their utmost to make a better life for their family by whatever means they can, doing it passionately and with love and yet still having the time to support others and offer their advice, support and help.
There were no power suits, or office politics, back stabbing or rivalry. It was just a bunch of ordinary people doing a really extraordinary thing.
As Susan Odev said, if you can give birth and survive the first year, you can achieve anything and I firmly believe her! Here’s to us!

What a positive review of an amazing day. I was honoured to be a part of it.
There’s been a lot of less positive debate on other sites (do we like being called Mumpreneurs etc) which is in danger of taking the Sparkle off the event.
Let’s focus on the good stuff … ordinary mums doing amazing things. I agree: “Here’s to us!”
Hi,
I’ve posted on the issue of the word “mumpreneur” – not relating particularly to this event, but because of a book I’ve reviewed for the post.
I don’t think anyone wants to detract in any way from the achievement of women in business. But as a feminist, I also don’t want women’s achievements to be overlooked because they don’t fit into the “mumpreneur” category, or for women’s achievement to be limited because the wider business world sees “mumpreneurs” as less smart, capable and ambitious than we know them to be.
I hope this makes sense. But at any rate congratulations to all of those involved in what sounds like a great event.
I had a great day and I think your blog sums it up really well! I didn’t get chance to speak to you in person, although I had wanted to – but unfortunately that was the case with a lot of people. Hope I get to meet you at the next one!
Hi, I’ve posted with more questions – would love to know what people think:

All the best and good luck with everything.

Hi everyone, I really wish I had been there. Recently I was interviewed by Susan Odev for her book. Like you I found her to be extremely talented and also so down to earth. Our strength as women is that we progress by co-operating with each other. Then our foundation is strong and our success reflects well on us all.
